About This Test

This test gently reads the tiny markers in your avian, parrot, and raptor DNA that show whether it carries the pattern for male (ZZ) or female (ZW). It is a trusted method that breeders and pet owners use when visual sexing is impossible.

No waiting for eggs or courtship behavior. A small blood sample lets the lab tell you the sex so you can plan housing, names, and future pairings with confidence.

Sample Type

A tiny amount of blood on a triangle piece of coffee filter, printer paper or paper towel.

The sample dries quickly, travels well, and keeps the DNA stable for testing in our homestead lab.

Full step by step instructions are available on the How it works page.

Turnaround Time

Most avian, parrot, and raptor results are ready the next day after your samples arrive at Little Haven DNA. Please allow up to 72 hours if the lab is busy or envelopes arrive late in the day.

You will receive an email as soon as your samples are logged into the system. Using shipping with tracking is recommended so you can see when your envelope reaches the lab.
