Recessive White Gene Test
Discover which birds quietly carry the hidden white cloak.
This test looks for the recessive white gene in chickens so you can see who is a carrier, who can produce white chicks, and how that trait flows through your lines.
Helpful for show projects, breeding programs, and anyone who wants to untangle the puzzle of mysterious white offspring.
Ideal for
- White breeding lines
- Projects with unexpected white chicks
- Show flocks with color goals
- Mixes where white appears at random
- Breeders planning long term pairings
- Curious keepers who love genetics
This test currently applies to chickens. Other poultry species may be added over time.
About this test
Recessive white works like a soft blanket over the bird colors underneath. Two copies of this gene can turn a bird white even when colorful genetics are hiding below the surface.
This test checks your chicken DNA for that recessive white pattern. It can help you see which birds are clear, which are carriers, and which are likely to produce white offspring.
Knowing who carries the gene lets you plan pens in a more intentional way so there are fewer surprises and more predictable outcomes over time.
Sample type
A small blood sample collected on a cotton swab or coffee filter is all that is needed for this test. Just soak a corner and let it air dry.
Samples are collected at home; Little Haven DNA does not send physical kits.
Full instructions are available on the How it works page.
Turnaround time
Most recessive white gene results are ready within 1 to 3 days after samples arrive at Little Haven DNA.
You will receive email updates when samples are logged and when results are ready to view inside your portal.
